A biography of Saint Dominic Barberi (1792-1849) an Italian theologian and member of the Passionist Congregation of the Catholic church, prominent for spreading Catholicism in 19th Century England. Blessed Dominic was beatified in 1963 by Pope Paul VI and his feast day is 27 August. Born to a family of poor Italian farmers, his parents died when he was a child and he had no regular education, but after joining the Congregation of the Passion in 1814 his intellect was recognised. Father Dominic arrived in England in 1841 and established the Passionists here in 1842. He maybe most known for his conversion of Cardinal John Henry Newman (1801-1890), who was an Anglican priest.
